We’re all spending a little more time at home than usual so why not take full advantage of this by spending time growing your own food. Now is the perfect time to get into the garden and prepare your veggie patches for a round of seasonal, organic produce – perfect for Winter comfort foods such as soups, stews and roasting.

Before you start planting, it’s important to turn and prepare the soil by adding nutrients in the form of fertiliser or manures, ready for young seedlings.
Now is the perfect time to plant:
– Cabbage
– Cauliflower
– Leek
– Onion
– Spring Onion
– Beetroot
– Garlic
– Spinach
– Silverbeet
Remember to always apply a layer of fresh pea straw or lucerne around new seedlings to stop crawling bugs. Protect new seedlings from possums and birds with bird netting. Possums don’t stop easily when they see something they want so ensure the bird netting is well fitted and set yourself a reminder to check this regularly.
Vegetable gardens should be prepared every year to replenish nutrients used throughout the year and this should be done after the Winter harvest.
The position of the garden beds is important in Winter to ensure your seedlings get maximum sun in the limited day time hours of Winter.
If you would like assistance with a anything veggie bed related, including positioning, preparing, or planting, we can help.
